## Why keep a bot on a VPS

### Runs 24/7

The bot runs as a systemd service or a Docker container and starts again by itself after a server reboot.

### Static IP address

A permanent IPv4 address works for webhooks and for allow lists of external APIs.

### Any language and library

Python with aiogram or python-telegram-bot, Node.js, Go and more: you get full root access and install whatever you need.

### Room for a database

You can run PostgreSQL, Redis or SQLite next to the bot: DE-PROMO has 10 GB of NVMe, DE-RZ9-1 already has 30 GB.

### Plans from £2.09

A simple bot fits on DE-PROMO with 1 vCPU and 1 GB of memory. For a bot with a database and queues, take DE-RZ9-1 or DE-RZ9-2.

### Several bots on one server

One VPS can run several bots at once, each as its own service, and you can watch them with journalctl.

## Plans for bots

The entry plans are enough for a single bot. Prices are per month.

## How to run a bot on the server

What to do after ordering

1. Order a server Pick a plan and Debian 12 or Ubuntu 24.04, and the server is ready 2 minutes after payment.
2. Connect over SSH Log in over SSH, update the system and create a separate user for the bot.
3. Move the code Copy the project with git or SFTP, install the dependencies and keep the bot token in an environment file.
4. Turn on autostart Describe the bot as a systemd service or run it in Docker with a restart policy, and it keeps working without you.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the cheapest plan enough?

For a Python or Node.js bot with moderate load, DE-PROMO is usually enough. If the bot processes files, uses a database or serves thousands of users, take DE-RZ9-1.

### Do I need a domain for a webhook?

Telegram sends webhooks over HTTPS only. The easiest way is to point a domain at the server and issue a free Let’s Encrypt certificate. Without a domain you can use long polling, which only needs outgoing internet access.

### Does the Telegram API work from the server?

Yes. The servers are in Germany, and requests to api.telegram.org go through directly.

### What happens if the bot crashes?

A systemd service with Restart=always restarts the bot automatically, and you can find the cause in the log with journalctl.
